Introduction

Dear students,

This web page is prepared for students who are following the Diploma in Architectural Engineering in Malaysia Polytechnics. It aims to expose students to the mathematical concepts with guidance from lecturers. At the end of this learning, students should be able to :

(1)    Understand the concepts  and solve the problems of forces and moment in relation to structural engineering.
(2)    Differentiate between stresses and strains.
(3)    Distinguish tensile stress , compressive stress and Modulus Young.
(4)    Identify different types of beams and connections.
(5)    Understand the concept of trusses in building construction.
(6)    Identify the internal and external forces in trusses.
(7)    Calculate the area and total number of reinforcement required in a given beam section with known bending moment.
(8)    Calculate the bending moment that can  be carried by a beam section according to the grade of steel provided.
