Forces
The term mechanics according to a dictionary definition refers to that branch of applied science which deals with the action of forces in producing motion or equilibrium . Within the context of Structural, forces represent the loads that the Structure is expected to carry. These are generally classified into three groups :
i. Dead loads – comprise the permanent loads due to the static weight of the structure itself, the cladding, floor finishes, and any other fixtures which form the fabric of the building.
ii. Live loads (Imposed loads) – produced by the intended occupancy of the building. i.e. loads due to the weight of plant and equipment , furniture, the people who use the building, etc.
